Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohd Arif Ab Rahman has been appointed the secretary-general of the Rural and Regional Development Ministry, effective today.

He replaces Datuk Seri Ibrahim Muhamad whose contract service has expired.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, in a statement today, said the qualification, experience and credibility possessed by Mohd Arif would enable him to carry out his new responsibilities effectively.

"This is in line with the ministry's mission to enhance the well-being of the rural community," he added.

Mohd Arif, 58, holds a Bachelor's Degree in Arts (Honours) from the University of Malaya and joined the civil service more than 33 years ago as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer on Dec 1, 1981.

He had served, among others, as deputy secretary-general of the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry and Selangor State Financial Officer.

Meanwhile, Ali, on behalf of the federal government, thanked Ibrahim for his contributions.
