The mother of a teenager who was stripped naked by villagers after he was caught for attempting to steal a motorcycle in a mosque compound said she was upset by the incident.

She said the villagers had no right to do what they did to his 15-year-old son.

"Even if he had done wrong, they had no right to do what they did. I can accept if they hit him, but to strip him naked and then spread the nude photo of him on social websites is an embarrassment to the family.

"They are many other ways to punish him," said the 38-year-old woman who declined to be identified when met at her house here on Thursday.

The boy was said to have been stripped naked by villagers after he was caught attempting to steal a motorcycle in the compound of the Pauh Lima Mosque in Kota Baharu last Tuesday.

The woman said she got to know about the incident after seeing the nude picture of her son on Facebook.

She hoped those responsible for spreading her son's nude photograph on the social website to remove or delete it.

Meanwhile, Kelantan police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said the boy would be remanded for four days to facilitate police investigation.
