Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has clarified that he has not acted hastily against the five Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) leaders whose membership were nullified on May 28.

The president and acting chairman of Bersatu said, he wanted to be fair to all despite many urges for him to take action much earlier.

“They (Dr Mahathir and four others) were not sacked from the party. Instead, their actions violated the party constitution and caused their membership to cease immediately.

“I personally did not take any action hastily although there is a lot of pressure to take action against them sooner.

“I want to be fair to all parties and ensure that whatever action is taken must be in line with the party constitution.

"No individual can supersede the party constitution," he said in a statement today.

The statement was in response to the termination of membership of five Members of Parliament (MPs) from Bersatu including Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah and Dr Maszlee Malik.

At the same time, Muhyiddin was confident that Bersatu will remain strong despite facing many challenges from the time the party was established.

“The important thing is that we do not struggle for any individual but for our religion, race and nation.

“Of course, we are saddened by the choice made by Tun Dr Mahathir not to be with us in the party struggle as it has been decided by the Supreme Council.

“Tun and his followers have chosen to continue working with Pakatan Harapan even if the party had decided otherwise.

“If that is Tun's choice, I wish him good luck.

"We pray to Allah Almighty to give us all the strength to cope with these difficult times with great patience and wisdom and to guide us,” he said.

Therefore, he called on all members of Bersatu to be with him in strengthening the Government for a more peaceful and prosperous Malaysia.
