Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Tuesday expressed disappointment that security was compromised during the Malaysia Cup final at the Shah Alam Stadium on Sunday.

A policeman had stumbled on a Browning pistol with seven bullets in a toilet at the stadium during the match.

Khairy said he was shocked to read reports on the finding of the gun at the stadium.

He said this was a very serious matter and showed the weakness of the organiser.

"If the gun was already there before the match, it means the security committee was lax in inspecting the stadium including the toilets. "If it was after the spectators got into the stadium, then screening of supporters was very lax," he told reporters after opening the Southeast Asian Shooting Championships at the National Shooting Range in Subang here.

He, however, admitted that everyone should wait for the outcome of the investigation by the police.

On other matters, Khairy said the ticket sales system for football matches was outdated and should be replaced with a new system, one that was online-based.

"If the FA of Malaysia (FAM) cannot handle ticket sales, my ministry can recommend new procedures," he said.

He was commenting on the problem of fake tickets and scalpers at work in conjunction with the Malaysia Cup final which saw Pahang edge defending champions Kelantan 1-0.

FAM secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, when contacted by Bernama for his comments on these issues, declined to do so saying he had yet receive comprehensive reports on them.
