Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Tan Sri SM Salim, who died today, would be remembered for his contributions that nourished the arts and heritage of the Malay world.

He extended his condolences to the family of the revered singer who died at the age of 88.

"Condolences to the family of TS SM Salim. The late SM Salim has contributed greatly to the arts and heritage of the Malay world. May Allah bless his soul. Al-Fatihah," said Najib in a post on his Twitter account.


SM Salim will be laid to rest at the Muslim Cemetery in Jalan Ampang after Friday prayers tomorrow.

SM Salim, whose real name is Sheikh Salim Sheikh Muhammad Al Mahros, was a passionate advocate of Malay classical songs. -- BERNAMA
