Police have been able to solve 22 cases of robbery and snatch theft in Ampang following the arrest of a man at a night market at Taman Muda, Pandan Indah, Ampang, two days ago.

Ampang Jaya police chief ACP Amiruddin Jamaluddin said in the approximately 12.05am incident, the 25-year-old suspect was caught with the help of the public.

"Before the police arrived at the scene, the crowd had arrested the suspect. Police also seized two handbags, two mobile phones, a galaxy tab, three memory cards, an identification card and three ATM cards," he said at a press conference, here, today.

He said the suspect who had also tested positive for syabu and had two previous criminal records, was believed to have just committed a snatch theft on a woman at a residential area in Taman Desa Setapak on that day.

He added, investigations found that the suspect, who operates alone, was active in robberies and snatch thefts by using a blue Yamaha 125Z motorcycle in Ampang and the neighbouring district since early last year.

Amiruddin said the police later inspected the suspect's house in Cheras and discovered 44 handbags, 38 multi brand wallets, 35 cell phones, 35 pendrives, 28 sim cards, a laptop and a digital camera.

"Police urged victims in Ampang, Sentul, Kajang, Cheras and Gombak to come forward to assist in the investigation and we believe that more cases will be successfully solved based on the seized items from the suspects," he said.
