The Southwest Public Service Department opened a second flood evacuation centre, at Teluk Kumbar near here, this morning.

Nineteen people from eight families have taken shelter at the centre at Dewan Gerakan Masyarakat.

As at 6.15am this morning, 30 flood victims from 13 families have been evacuated to two centres, said the department in a statement.

Eleven people from five families are temporarily staying at the first evacuation centre at Perpustakaan Komuniti Siber Ilmu, Teluk Bahang.

Floods after heavy rain coupled with high tide hit Teluk Kumbar and Teluk Bahang early today. Overall, the weather in the state this morning is cloudy with occasional heavy showers.

The flood water submerged a number of low-lying areas in Penang including Bayan Lepas, Batu Maung, Relau and Teluk Bahang as well as Penang International Airport.
