Foreign private-registered vehicles entering Malaysia via Johor will be subjected to RM20 charge beginning November 1, 2016.

The Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the road charge (RC) will be collected each time motorists enter Malaysia via Touch nā€™ Go cards.

The RC system has been activated at the two land entry points in Johor ā€“ the Causeway and the Second Link.

He added that initial collection exercise would only involve foreign private-registered vehicles excluding foreign registered motorcycles.

Nevertheless, Liow said all foreign-registered vehicles are encouraged to register their vehicle information under the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) to ensure smooth entry to Malaysia once the VEP is implemented.

The VEP is an automated vehicle registration system and is part of the ongoing efforts by the government to improve border control and monitoring.

While the implementation of RC and eventually VEP will only involve foreign private-registered vehicles at the two entry points in Johor initially, this exercise will be extended throughout the 12 entrances to Malaysia in stages.

Liow said more information on the VEP will be provided closer to the implementation date.
