Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) denies any involvement in the hostility displayed at Dataran Merdeka during the May1 anti-GST rally.

“We condemn any act of violence by our members including excessive pushing on the grounds or preventing people from entering the square,” said SAMM Director of Propaganda Edy Noor Reduan in a statement today.

SAMM explained that during the rally, they tried to enter the square but found that there was no space, so they decided to stop and stay in one location.

The youth group said that a SAMM female member was hit during a small scuffle and they acted in self defence.

However, they do not deny that there were a few SAMM members failed to control their emotions as they were hot and tired after marching for 5 kilometres.

The non-governmental organization (NGO) also denies a report by Bernama that SAMM were involved in hitting a media representative.

According to the report by Bernama, around 4.30pm on May 1, three cameramen were assaulted by a group of participants dressed in black wearing masks.

Two were punched and kicked, whilst the other was hit by a piece of wood.

The same report also mentioned the incident where Amal PAS and SAMM has been fighting with each other on a number of issues.
