A senior citizen and a woman were among 36 people who were detained by police for illegal gambling in Bandar Kinrara on Monday.

The 68-year-old man was found placing a bet at a jungle area in Taman Damai Utama.

Selangor CID chief, SAC Mohd Adnan Abdullah said 26 out of 36 people detained were Indonesian construction workers.

“They were caught when they were placing their bet on “Bola Golek” betting and a cockfight. Some of the roosters that were involved were also tied with sharp blade on its legs,” said Mohd Adnan.

Police investigation reveal gambling activities started a month ago and it had attracted many Indonesian construction workers in the area.

“Two of the organisers that were arrested also used to organise betting activities in other places and we believe betting activities only took place in the evening especially on public holidays and at the end of the month.

Many of the Indonesian workers detained also did not posess valid travel and working permits.

Police also seized cash worth RM36,000 from the location.

Mohd Adnan added that on certain days the betting amount could reach RM100,000.
