The 1Malaysia People's Sim Card (SR1M), with a starting pack as low as RM5.90, was introduced to give a choice, especially to the low and moderate income groups, and students to reduce their expenditure on telecommunication services.

Launched by Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek here, today, SR1M offered telecommunication line services, short messaging services and internet access.

At a starting pack price of as low as RM5.90, consumers would obtain RM5 free credit and 150 Megabite (MB) of internet access.

In his opening address, Hasan said SR1M was another initiative under the 1Malaysia people's products aimed at helping low and medium income earners reduce their cost of living.

"The existence of SR1M is not to add to the competition faced by the portable telephone network providing industry but as an alternative for those needing cellphones as a main communication equipment such as the low and medium income earners and students," he said.

Hasan said SR1M offered the latest telecommunication service at a low price and quality comparable to the other telecommunication service providers.
