The joy of two families who went for a picnic at the Lata Tembakah waterfall in Hulu Besut, here, ended in tragedy when one family member drowned yesterday evening.

The victim was identified as Nasririn Manahil Shamsurrahman, 10, a Standard Four pupil of Sekolah Kebangsaan Sultan Sulaiman 1, Kuala Terengganu.

While playing by the river, the victim and her cousin Syaza Izz Mohd Hairi, 9, of SK Felda Felda Tenang, Hulu Besut, drowned in a three-metre deep pool.

With the help of other visitors, both girls were recovered from the pool about 10 minutes later before being rushed to Besut Hospital.

Besut district police chief, Supt Khaled Che Lah when contacted, confirmed the incident and said Nasririn Manahil died during treatment while her cousin survived.

Meanwhile, in KUALA NERUS, the body of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) student who drowned at Tok Jembal beach Wednesday was found on Thursday.

The body of Isa Bassri Ishak, 21, was found about one kilometre away from the location he was reported missing at about 2.30 pm.

State Fire and Rescue Department operations head, Mohamed Zulkhairul Mohamed Razilah said the victim's body was sent to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital, near here.

He told Bernama that a total of 74 personnel including police and from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency were involved in the search-and-rescue operation.

In the incident at 6.30 pm Wednesday, the Maritime Management student disappeared after being hit by a wave while a colleague, Mohamad Nazri was rescued while swimming at Tok Jembal beach.
