A supermarket supervisor pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of misappropriation, involving RM2,099,170.02, belonging to his employer.

K.S. Jayabalan, 46, is charged with the offence by selling goods belonging to Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad without the permission and knowledge of his employer at its Manjoi branch between February and July 5 this year.

The charge, under Section 408 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust (CBT) by a clerk or servant, is punishable with a maximum imprisonment for 14 years and whipping and is liable with fine, if found guilty.

Judge Rushan Lutfi Mohamed set bail at RM100,000 with one surety and fixed Nov 24 for mention.

The prosecution is represented by deputy public prosecutor Nadiah Mohd Isa.
