Police arrested a man early today over the murder of a policeman at the Pinggiran USJ Police Station yesterday.

Selangor Police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the 34-year-old suspect was from Sibu, Sarawak, and had been summoned to give a statement last night.

"An application will made (to the court) today to have the suspect remanded to assist in the investigation," he said in a statement.

Lance Corporal Valentino Mesa, 29, of Sarawak was found dead at the inquiry counter of the Pinggiran USJ police station at 3.25 am yesterday.

A patrol unit that returned to the station found him slumped at the desk where he was on duty. He had been shot in the head at close range and was stabbed as well.

Mazlan advised the public against making any kind of speculation on the murder or the arrest of the suspect, saying it could jeopardise the investigation.
