A septuagenarian was among four people detained in connection with the seizure of 6,924 bottles of vape liquid believed to contain nicotine, and 190 units of vape accessories here on Tuesday.

The vape liquid and accessories worth about RM380,385 were confiscated in an integrated operation about 4pm, at two locations in Taman Century and another in Larkin.

Johor police chief Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the suspects aged between 23 and 70, were owners and keepers of the premises.

"We recorded their statements and released them," he told reporters at the Johor police contingent headquarters here today.

"The raids were carried out after three of the premises were found in violation of various regulations, among them selling vape liquid believed to contain nicotine, apart from conducting business without licence and displaying advertisements without licence," he said.

He said action could be taken against vape traders according to existing laws, namely the Poisons Act 1952, Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, Business Registration Act 1956 and other related acts.

Apart from the police, the operation also involved the health ministry, state domestic trade, cooperatives and consumerism office, Companies Commission of Malaysia, Johor Baharu City Council and the National Anti-Drug Agency.

Meanwhile, Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said orders had been given to all police personnel in the state not to vape at their respective offices.

"I have issued the order after taking over duties as Johor police chief and I will not hesitate to take disciplinary on any personnel or officers in the state for infringing the order," he said.
