Six people held under the Internal Security Act (ISA) are still being detained at the Kamunting Protective Detention Centre in Taiping, the Dewan Rakyat was told Tuesday.
They were undergoing rehabilitation as they were still regarded as a threat to national security, said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar (pic).
He said their detention was in accordance with Section 32(2) of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 which allowed the continued detention of people held under the now-repealed ISA until the end or cancellation of the detention period.
"Some 244 people are also being detained at the Moral Rehabilitation Centre in Simpang Renggam under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) 1985 for having engaged in drug trafficking," he said when replying to a question from M. Kulasegaran (DAP-Ipoh Barat).
Meanwhile, the Dewan Rakyat was also told that the government had set up a laboratory to scrutinise the safety and improvement aspects of all dams in the country.
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said the outcome of the study would be presented to the Cabinet as a proposal for implementation.
He was replying to a question from Datuk Othman Aziz (BN-Jerlun) who had wanted to know the government's plan to ensure the safety of all dams in the country.
Ongkili said the laboratory, established in October last year, comprised representatives from the ministry, the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) and the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry.
