Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos today announced he is considering resigning as head of Umno Sungai Besar division as well as all posts he held in non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

The chairman of the Gabungan Gerakan Merah Malaysia (GNGMM) said this after he was released from police custody at the Ampang Jaya District Police Headquarters at about 7pm today.

A 1.21-minute video recording of his pending resignation was posted on his official Facebook account tonight.

The reason of his resignation remained unknown but the razor-tongued Jamal had reportedly said that he plans to focus on a new business venture: illegal gambling premise.

"Today I wish to announce the possibility of my resignation as Umno division head, Sungai Besar Barisan Nasional Parlimentary chairman, Selangor NGO chairman and Malaysia NGO Coalition chairman.

"For me the posts I've held for the community have failed to be fully utilised, and after this I will run my own illegal gambling business like the other gambling business owners since a business of this nature seemed to get immunity, privilege compared to other posts as a community leader," said Jamal.

Last Thursday, Jamal was detained in his house and remanded for five days beginning Friday to help in the investigations into trespassing and theft on several gambling premises in Selangor.

In December last year, Jamal and several others raided several premises in Ampang, Selangor, where gambling activities were held.
