The new Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) party has not made any formal request to meet with PAS to discuss the allocation of seats or forge any kind of political cooperation.
PAS vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said, Bersatu has only expressed its intention to do so through the media but has not done it officially.
So far, he said, there had been no discussions with Bersatu, and even at the PAS Pusat level, the issue on meeting with Bersatu has yet to be discussed.
“So far, we have yet to make any decision whether to have discussions or to cooperate with Bersatu, because, there was no formal request. And if there is any (request), we have to discuss first, whether it is proper or not.
“There was no formal request and no official contact with them about seat (allocation). Whatever it is, we have yet to discuss it, not even with PKR. So, for today, we maintain the status quo,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters today after attending the 18th convocation ceremony of Kolej Islam Antarabangsa Sultan Ismail Petra (KIAS) at Nilam Puri here.
Mohd Amar, who is also Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar said, PAS is always open and willing consider the matter even if Bersatu intends to also cooperate with Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).
On Monday, PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said, there is nothing to fear about Bersatu and it is open to talks on the number of seats it is eyeing to contest in the 14th General Election (GE14).
He said to the media after the state monthly assembly in Shah Alam, PKR is ready to discuss the matter with Bersatu.
"This is not a question of taking seats (from PKR). When we formed PKR in 1999, (it was) the same process (that) we went through. We talked to DAP, PAS and several other political parties.
"And with that mutual understanding, we managed to secure some seats. I think the process will be discussed later,” he said while adding, there have been no discussions yet and the registration of the party must first be approved.
On Sunday, Bersatu's protem president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the yet to be registered party was eyeing on a number of seats to be contested in GE14.
He had said, they would start negotiating with other opposition parties including PAS, as soon as Bersatu's registration is approved by the Registrar of Societies.
