PAS will take legal action against UMNO secretary-general, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, regarding his claim that PAS is a "deviant party".

PAS information chief, Datuk Mahfuz Omar said the statement by Tengku Adnan will be referred to the party's legal bureau for further action.

"We condemn the statement by Tengku Adnan which accuses PAS as a political party that carries deviant teachings and distorts the faith of Muslims.

"We will seek advice from our legal bureau to consider taking legal action towards the UMNO secretary-general," Harakahdaily today reported him as saying.

Tengku Adnan in his speech on Sunday had stated that PAS is a political party that advocates slander and misuses verses from the Al-Quran for political purposes.

He also said UMNO is a Malay party that safeguards the beliefs of Muslims in this country.

Tengku Adnan apparently made his comments during his speech at the closing ceremony of the UMNO National Multaqa Islamic Bureau in Kuala Lumpur.
