A strategic blueprint for the development of sepaktakraw in the country will be introduced soon to ensure rapid growth of the sport at the grassroots.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the strategic plan would be formulated just like the National Football Development Plan that was implemented by the ministry recently.

Khairy said all stake holders for the sport of sepaktakraw like the Malaysian Sepaktakraw Association (PSM), National Sports Council (NSC) and Education Ministry will sit and discuss their scope of involvement to identify
talented young players.

"We are not only going to boost the sport in schools but also introduce district and state level competitions, especially at the junior levels," Khairy told reporters after closing a Sepaktakraw Development Plan workshop in Seri Kembangan, near here today.

The workshop which started on Friday was attended by stake holders for the sport of sepaktakraw at various levels.

"The strategic plan is important to ensure the objective of winning the gold medal at the 2017 SEA Games and revive the glory days of sepaktakraw at regional and global level," he said.
