Niaga AWANI: Job Title Inflation: limited success in attracting and retaining talent in Malaysia
A majority of professionals place a high value on job titles and promotions as indicated by LinkedIn polls conducted by Robert Walters Malaysia in January. The polls revealed that 91% of professionals consider the job title to be important or very important when applying for a role. Moreover, among young professionals, 47% expect to be promoted within 24 months of working in a company.
While some companies have tried inflating job titles, the success rate varied.
52% of hiring managers have not attempted inflating job titles to attract or retain their employees, while 24% of the respondents shared that they have or are considering in doing so. Interestingly, 24% of those who have inflated job titles shared that it has worked to its desired effect.
