A man who allegedly snatched a woman's mobile phone and purse in Bandar Kota Tinggi here last night, did not go far.

He was stopped in his tracks when her husband who was nearby, overpowered the suspect, with the aid of a passer-by.

The suspect was handed over to the police in the 11.15pm incident.

Kota Tinggi police chief Supt Rahmat Othman said the 30-year-old victim was heading towards her stall at a bazaar when the snatch theft occurred in Jalan Niaga 1.

"It was by chance that her husband was nearby and he chased and caught the suspect, with the help of a passer-by, in front of a building at the Pekan Rabu Kota Tinggi," he said in a statement.

Seized from the suspect was a knife, branded wristwatch, mobile phone and a wallet.

Rahmat said the suspect was remanded for four days, beginning Monday.
