The never-give-up attitude of the Harimau Malaysia squad helped the team beat Cambodia 3-2 in the Group B opening match of the 2016 Asean Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup at Thuwunna Stadium, here, today.

Team captain Mohd Amri Yahyah praised the determination displayed by his teammates despite trailing behind twice in the match.

"I hope victory will continue in the following matches...For me, the two goals I scored today were not from me alone but the result of teamwork," he told reporters after the match.

The Johor Darul Ta'zim player admitted that the hot weather of 33 degrees Celsius today posed as a great challenge for them, but he hoped the team would be able to adapt to the heat in their second group game against Vietnam on Wednesday.

Left winger Mohd Syazwan Zainon scored the first goal for Harimau Malaysia in their opening match.

National striker, Darren Lok was especially delighted with the win in his debut with the national team.

"It's good to win but we need to work on a few things. Nevertheless, I'm happy with today's victory," said the Johor Darul Ta'zim II player.

"It is also not easy playing in the hot weather but we must get used to it as the second match will also be held in the afternoon," added Lok who is of English-Malaysian parentage. - BERNAMA
