The body of a woman who went missing with her husband after they fell into flood waters in Kampung Geliga Che Akob while being evacuated three days ago, was found today.

Norhayati Sulong’s bod y was found by search and rescue personnel at around 4.25pm today, 700 metres from where the boat capsized.

Her body has been sent to the Forensic Unit of the Kemaman Hospital in Terengganu.

District police chief, Supt Che Suza Hitam confirmed receiving a report on the recovery of the body.

At 1.20pm on Wednesday, Norhayati and her husband, Suhaimi Awang, were reported missing after falling off a boat while firemen were ferrying flood victims to an evacuation centre.

The boat was said to have been trapped in a whirlpool and capsized.

The victim’s brother, Razali Sulong said he was thankful for the recovery which has brought some form of closure for his family.

Their family will however continue to conduct ‘solat hajat’ prayers and recite the Al-Quran together with other residents in the village.

Razali also hoped his brother-in-law would be found soon.

The discovery of Norhayati’s body raises the death toll in Terengganu due to the second wave of flood to two, after the recovery of 14-year-old Nurrashidah Baharuddin on Thursday.

Nurrashidah had drowned in Sungai Kesom after she slipped and fell into flood waters while trying to cross the river at Kampung Kesom Che Nordin, Manir, Kuala Terengganu with several others.
