While flood victims in the district are facing difficult times, some unscrupulous people have taken the opportunity to break into shops, petrol station and supermarkets.

The individuals are said to have used boats to flee with not only food stuff, but all kinds of items, including electrical appliances, guitar and drilling machine.

Robberies at several shops here have been recorded by residents and gone viral on YouTube.

A supermarket manager, Teoh Hong Kean, 48, said the supermarket was broken into last Saturday when residents were busy fleeing the floods to evacuation centres.

"During the second day of the floods, I braved the flood waters to check the situation at the supermarket, but as I reached across the street, I saw a group of people on a boat making off with various items from my premises, including electrical appliances and a large pot.

"I was only able to observe and record their behaviour on my smartphone. They also yelled at me telling me to go back," she told Bernama, adding that her employees who stayed behind at the supermarket were also robbed by a group armed with machetes.

Meanwhile, a Petronas station in Jalan Tengku Ismail was also broken into.

A worker, Mohd Firdaus Mohd Nasir, 23, said the incident occurred last Tuesday night and that the robbers fled with several items.

A retailer in Taman Bahagia Makmur, Syed Khairi Anuar Syed Hussin, 40, said six other shops near his sundry shop, including a barber shop, were broken into and all their goods were stolen.

One of the dealers had to close his shop after almost all the items in the store were stolen, he said.
