The President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO)of Petronas, Tan Sri Shamsul Azhar Abbas, has been bestowed The Oil & Gas Year Malaysia 2013 Man of the Year Award.

Speaking at the ceremony Monday, Shamsul Azhar said the award served as a timely reminder of what Petronas had achieved in the last three years.

"Within this period, we have affectively reinvigorated and brought the excitement back to Malaysia's oil and gas industry.

"This will not only ensure long term energy sustainability for the nation, but also create a galvanising effect on investments in the midstream and downstream, as well as for services providers," he added.

The only president and CEO of the company to have been re-appointed for a second term, Shamsul Abbas said Petronas had lifted the gloom over Malaysia's declining domestic production, which cast a shadow on Malaysia's oil and gas industry.

"In taking on the challenge, it was paramount for Petronas to imbue the spirit of "Reimagining Energy", push boundaries and start to think, act and behave as a truly world class company," he added.

At the same event, The Marginal Field Development of the Year award was presented to Petrofac, with the Midstream Development of the Year award won by the Dialog Group, while the Downstream Development of the Year award was given to Petronas.

Technip Malaysia clinched the Engineering and Construction Contractor of the Year award and the Local SME of the year award was bagged by ProEight.

The awards were given in conjunction with the official launch of The Oil & Gas Year Malaysia 2013 book, published in partnership with Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corp and the Malaysian Gas Association.

Featuring maps, graphs, articles and opinion pieces from key decision makers involved in the industry, the publication covers the key commercial, technical, and geological trends, together with insights into the regional energy dynamics that are driving opportunities in Malaysia's hydrocarbons industry.
