FALLING temperatures, hot showers, humidity and the lack of sunlight can be a source of much skin damage. In winter, skin tends to be drier, complexions duller, and redness more present. This is far from being irreparable... provided you use the right natural ingredients to care for your skin without damaging it.
A course of vitamin C, D and magnesium -- among other things -- could help us ward off winter woes, or at least get through the season without too many physical ailments.
And when it comes to skin, natural ingredients can help provide it with all the necessary virtues to withstand the cold, humidity, temperature variations, and the lack of sunlight. Even before temperatures drop, here are three ingredients to include in your beauty routine to help prepare your skin to face the perils of winter.
Honey's got you covered
In summer or winter, honey is a true natural ally for skin, although its virtues may depend on the flowers used by bees to make it. As we know, this natural ingredient combines antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, making it the perfect companion for problem skin.
But as winter arrives, it is the soothing and nourishing virtues of honey that are of particular interest, since it helps dry, dehydrated and sensitive skin to recover -- and to face the season's harshness.
As well as treating your taste buds, honey can become an all-in-one cosmetic, to nourish skin in depth, to boost its radiance, and to help it heal. Above all, look for lavender honey, made from the nectar of lavender flowers, which will be suitable for all skin types.
Carrot shows its sunny side
What happened to that tan you were so proud of just two months ago? The lack of sunlight inherent to fall and winter is starting to make complexions paler, and especially much duller.
This is something you can try to hide with foundation and bronzing powder, but which it's best to remedy with carrot, an accessible and inexpensive ingredient. Carrot juice will be the star of the season to make your skin glow, but it's also possible to introduce carrot into your beauty routine via an oil or macerated oil.
These two products should be used as soon as you return from your summer vacation to keep your tan alive, then use them all winter long to restore your complexion's radiance -- especially since carrots can help to prevent certain signs of aging.
Chamomile soothes and calms
Soothing chamomile is perhaps best known as a go-to for overcoming sleep difficulties, but it also calms sensitive, irritated skin, or skin prone to a certain discomfort.
These conditions are all the more present in winter, when skin feels tight because of occasional dryness, or even a form of dehydration. In deep winter, chamomile offers a true touch of softness for a skin badly affected by the season's many external aggressors. It can even help soothe irritated eyes.
