The world’s most successful musical theatre, The Phantom of the Opera, is returning to Singapore for a month starting this July.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s masterpiece will be staged starting July 16 and end on August 11 with a total of 24 scheduled performances.

It will be staged at The Mastercard Theatres, Marina Bay Sands.

The musical is entering its 27th year on West End and 26th year on Broadway. It continues to enjoy worldwide successes and had been staged in Johannesburg, Tokyo, Budapest, and Hamburg.

The theatre has been seen by over 130 million people in more than 27 countries. It has grossed more than $5.6 billion (RM17 billion). The musical is not only popular but is also critically-acclaimed with more than 50 theatre awards.

Producer Kerry Comerford said The Phantom of the Opera is a unique musical theatre and sits in a class of its own.

“It has received incredible acclaim over the years, and to this day remains unrivalled by other musicals in its world-wide successes,” she said.

The Phantom of the Opera made its stage debut in London on September 27, 1986 and in 2011, it added two special performances to mark the musical’s 25th anniversary.

Its staging in Singapore is produced by The Really Useful Group.

Comerford added that the staging there will maintain the same standard as the performance on West End and Broadway.
“We invest a great deal to ensure it is of the highest standards,” she added.

The Phantom of the Opera had been staged in Singapore in 2007 whereby the musical was completely sold out.

“I am confident that audiences in Singapore will welcome the return of this legendary musical,” said Comerford.

The performance in Singapore will feature the best actors and musicians in the industry from United Kingdom, United States, Europe, Australia, and South Africa with a total of 130 cast, crew and orchestra members.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical is based upon the novel Le Fantome De L'Opera by Gaston Leroux.

In 2004, it made a return to the silver screen and directed by Joel Schumacher.
