KOTA BHARU: Twenty-nine compounds were issued and 15 electric scooters were impounded during an integrated enforcement operation dubbed "Ops Scooter" here last night.

Kota Bharu-Islamic City Municipal Council (MPKB-BRI) in a statement said the operation which was mounted with the cooperation from Kelantan Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAHEAIK) and the Kelantan Police began at 10 pm yesterday and ended at 1 am today.

"During the operation, the MPKB-BRI issued three compounds to electric scooter service providers for running the business without a licence and impounded 15 of such scooters.

"JAHEAIK, on the other hand, issued eight compounds to individuals who played the scooters while dressing inappropriately and behaving badly in public," it said, adding that 18 other compounds were issued by the police for traffic offences involving seven motorcycles, three cars and eight bicycles.

For the record, the use of electric scooters on the road is not allowed in Malaysia.
