Below is the full statement by Salleh Said:

The Public Accounts Committee’s report on 1MDB has confirmed that the accusations of wrongdoing made against the Prime Minister by Tun Mahathir’s Anti-Najib Campaign were false. ‎

Specifically, it has been proven that the allegations made by Tun Mahathir that RM42 billion was missing from 1MDB were completely baseless. No monies are missing, misappropriated or unaccounted for.

There may have been poor business strategy, but there is no evidence of criminal acts.

So it is clear that Tun Mahathir’s campaign to change the Government outside a general election, based on allegations of wrong-doing at 1MDB, has failed.

In fact, 1MDB has successfully managed to do a rationalisation exercise, because the assets of 1MDB are greater than its liabilities. This is in contrast to Proton, which needs a government bailout of around 2 billion to survive.

The irony is that while Tun Mahathir has been making false accusations that 1MDB is facing financial collapse, it is Proton – under his leadership – that is actually facing financial collapse, if the government doesn’t choose to bail it out.

Tun Mahathir, and the rest of his Anti-Najib Coalition, should be held accountable for the damage they have caused to Malaysia’s reputation.
