One of the aerotrain services at the KL International Airport, which was reported to have a breakdown this morning, has resumed its operations at 10.38 this morning, said Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB).
An official from MAHB said the bus service was activated immediately to address the situation.
“The overcrowding has been cleared as at 10.15am. One train is also already back to normal operations but the bus service is still ongoing. We apologise to our passengers for the inconvenience,” he told Bernama.
In its official Facebook posting, MAHB said the breakdown of the aerotrain that connects the main terminal to the satellite buildings is currently undergoing corrective maintenance.
“Please do not hesitate to approach our information counters for assistance. We apologise for the inconvenience caused,” it said.
On the progress of the second aerotrain, he said: “We will be updating on the situation continuously on our official twitter and Facebook”.
Earlier, netizens vented their anger in the social media following the breakdown of the two KLIA aerotrains at about 8am.
Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir tweeted today that "passengers stranded on arrival at KLIA now. Trains not functioning. Please do something MAHB and Ministers".
A Facebook user, Max-F. Scheichenost urged the authority to think on how to manage the operations of the two aerotrains.
“No information. Only two buses for 1,000 stuck passengers! One person passed out due to your insufficient response. You should think about how to manage your operations if your only two trains are not working," he said.
Facebook users had also shared pictures of hundreds of people waiting anxiously for the aerotrain, which had gone viral.
On a Facebook user's claim that a passenger has passed out during the breakdown, MAHB cleared the air by saying the claim was untrue.
MAHB advised all international flight bound passengers to head early to the airport for a seamless journey.
“Due to the upcoming long school holidays, we are expecting heavy flow of passengers in the next two weeks. Please do not hesitate to approach our team on-site for further assistance,” it said.
It said due to the current maintenance of aerotrains in KLIA, bus services were available to ferry passengers.
Meanwhile, MAHB urged passengers to proceed straight to the bussing lounge for connecting services to the Satellite Building.
This is the second incident in almost two months. On April 8, aerotrain services at the airport were stalled due to urgent corrective maintenance.
