Datuk Ibrahim Abd Rahman, the father of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was laid to rest at 2.35pm today at the Sungai Ramal Muslim cemetery in Kajang, Selangor.

The funeral prayers (solat jenazah) was performed at Pinggir Pelangi Pagi, Country Heights at 1pm before the body was brought to the cemetery at 2.10pm.

Among those who paid final respects to Ibrahim were former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, PKR secretary-general and Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli and former Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Muhammad Mohd Taib.

Also present were former Penang Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, Wanita UMNO chief, Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil and Padang Serai MP N.Surendran and lawyer Latheefa Koya.

Meanwhile, Selangor state government expressed their condolence to Anwar and wife, Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail over the demise of Anwar’s father.

“I pray for the family of Datuk Seri Anwar to stay strong and persevere during this difficult period. I would also like to thank the Home Ministry for allowing Anwar to visit his late father,” said Azmin.

Rafizi also expressed his gratitude to the Prison Department and Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“It’s a fair action. It was unfortunate for Anwar who lost both his parents while serving prison time.

“The first time it happened was when his mother died and he was allowed to visit. It’s a good gesture and so I would like to express my gratitude,” said Rafizi.

Anwar arrived at his father’s residence at 10.40am with heavy security from the Prison Department.

At the residence, he was greeted by his daughter Nurul Nuha.
