A robber armed with a knife was shot dead by the police when he tried to attack them at a 24-hour convenience store in Pasir Pekan, Tumpat.

The 34-year-old man who sustained a gunshot wound in the chest and left leg died on the spot in the 3am incident.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said earlier, the armed man had refused to surrender when the police arrived at the store. Instead, he continued robbing the premises.

He said despite several policemen challenging the man to give up, the man tried to attack them and was shot dead.

Mazlan was speaking to reporters after launching the Police Undergraduate Voluntary Corp (Suksis) at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan here Saturday.

He said the body was sent to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital here.
