Police have crippled an armed robbery syndicate following the arrest of nine men and confiscation of seven vehicles, leaving an officer critically injured at Kampung Baru Subang, here, on Tuesday.
The operations chief from the Selangor Police Contingent Serious Crime Squad (D9), Inspector Saiful Bahari Yunus, 28, sustained a fractured left arm and shattered left cheekbone after he fell off the roof of a house while chasing two of the nine men in the 5.40pm incident.
Selangor CID chief SAC Mohd Adnan Abdullah said the officer suffered from internal bleeding and only returned to stable condition after being treated at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.
"He is injured while his wife is in confinement after delivering their second child in Ipoh, Perak. This is proof of our commitment in fighting crime," he told reporters here today.
He said despite the injury, the nine criminals aged between 18 and 30 were detained and will be remanded until tomorrow.
Mohd Adnan said police also seized two Toyota Hilux four-wheel drive vehicles, four Proton cars and a Honda Civic car as well as three parangs.
He said the syndicate was detected 30 minutes earlier after four of the members, armed with parangs, robbed a supervisor, 46, and fled with a Toyota Hilux.
They robbed the supervisor at a junction near Tesco Extra Bukit Puchong, Puchong, here at 4.50pm.
"During the incident, two male witnesses and the supervisor were warned not to fight back before the men fled with the car worth RM102,000," he said.
He said initial investigations found that one of the nine men had past records for robbery.
He added that the gang had been active in the past year and was involved in robbery cases using stolen cars around Selangor and Penang.
