The High Court has set five days from Aug 10 to hear a RM50-million suit over sodomy against Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim brought by his former personal aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

Mohd Saiful's counsel, Zamri Idrus, told reporters Judicial Commissioner Azizul Azmi Adnan set the dates in chambers after meeting him and Anwar's counsel, Shahid Adli Kamarudin, when the matter came up for case management.

He said the court also set five more days - Aug 17, 18, 21, 24 and 25 - for the hearing of the suit.

Zamri said the plaintiff would call at least 10 witnesses to testify at the hearing of the suit.

Shahid said the defendant would call three witnesses.

Mohd Saiful, 30, filed the suit on June 23 last year, seeking RM50 million in damages and citing physical trauma and agony since 2008 as a result of having been allegedly sodomised by Anwar.

In his statement of claim, Mohd Saiful contended that Anwar had accused him of defaming and conspiring against him with his police report alleging sodomy on June 28, 2008.

Mohd Saiful also claimed that he never lied in the police report about having been sodomised by Anwar and that the last sodomy incident took place on June 26, 2008, at Unit 1151, Desa Damansara Condominium, Jalan Setia Kasih, here.

The plaintiff claimed that he was looked down upon by the community which allegedly believed Anwar's allegations against him and ridiculed him in the social websites.

Anwar, 67, in his statement of defence filed on Oct 8 last year, denied having sodomised Mohd Saiful and said the allegations were false.

On Feb 10 this year, the Federal Court upheld the five-year jail sentence imposed by the Court of Appeal on Anwar after it had found him guilty of having sodomised Mohd Saiful.

Anwar is serving the sentence in the Sungai Buloh prison.
