KUALA LUMPUR: National track cycling ace Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang's father, Awang Embong died of a stroke early today.

Azizulhasni's brother-in-law, Mohd Razman Mohamad said his father-in-law breathed his last at 2 am at his home in Dungun, Terengganu.

He said early this week, Awang, 72, who also suffered from dementia was admitted to a private hospital in Kuala Terengganu and was warded for four days before being discharged yesterday.

"He looked happy when discharged. We were all shocked and saddened by his death this morning, but we accepted it as fate," he told Bernama.

Mohd Razman said the funeral prayers for Awang would be held after the Zohor prayers at Surau Ustaz Omar Shukri before being laid to rest at the Syed Yahya Muslim cemetery in Dungun.

Meanwhile, Mohd Razman said he had communicated with Azizulhasni, who is currently undergoing training in Melbourne, Australia, at 5 am today to share about the funeral arrangements for Awang.

"Azizulhasni is indeed saddened by the passing of his father. As he could not come home in time for the funeral, he said he had to leave it to us to make all the necessary arrangements," he said.
