A mosque official preparing for the dawn prayer today found the body of a newborn baby girl at the Kampung Baru Mosque in Bentong, according to police.

Bentong District Police deputy chief DSP S. Somu said the body, wrapped in a cream chequered cloth, was found in the ablution area.

"It is believed to have been left there between between 10.30pm on Aug 31 and 5am today," he told reporters.

Somu said police were notified about the body at 5.50am. It was sent to the Bentong Hospital, he added.
