Two of the eight pupils of Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Bunga Raya 1 who were swept away by strong currents in Sungai Selangor at Kampung Timah, Bukit Beruntung, here, yesterday were the school's top football strikers.

The combination of Muhammad Aiman Kamarul Ariffin and Muhammad Aiman Fitri Md Asmadi, both aged 12, had been first choice of the school's football squad at each championship in the district.

Coach Wan Mohd Firdaus Wan Abdullah said the two boys were talented and had the potential to go far in the sport.

"I had combined them since they were 10 years old and in a friendly match on Wednesday, they scored again.

"I am shocked at the tragedy that befell them," he said when met, here, today.

The coach also cancelled a trip back to his village to join in the search and rescue operation.

In the incident at about 5pm, eight children aged nine to 12 from a nearby housing area were swept away by swift currents when looking for fish in the river.

One of them swam to safety, five were found drowned while two were still missing as at 3pm today.
