The police officer who accidentally shot the 10-year-old boy while emptying his gun at Kampung Belanja Kiri, Parit on Oct 14 has been suspended from duties effective yesterday.

Perak deputy police chief Datuk A. Paramasivam said the suspension letter was delivered to the sergeant about 2.30pm.

Commenting on the status of the case, he said the deputy public prosecutor had returned the investigation paper for additional facts.

"We will complete it and hand it back to the deputy public prosecutor for further action," he told reporters after surveying Little India ahead of Deepavali this Saturday, here last night.

The sergeant was emptying his P99 Walther gun outside a house in the village when a shot was fired injuring Mohd Amar Mohd Azizi.

The boy underwent a successful operation on Oct 20 to remove the bullet which was lodged in his throat.
