Summon notice will be issued immediately to express bus drivers found to have violated traffic regulations through "Ops Raya" by the Road Transport Department (RTD), its director-general, Datuk Nadzri Siron said today.

He said RTD personnel disguising as passengers would be monitoring the drivers to ensure their compliance to traffic rules and regulations, like speed limit, using handphone while driving and over-taking on double line.

A summon notice would be issued to the errant driver concerned immediately after the bus arrived at its destination, unlike previously when the errant driver would be asked to go to a RTD office for further action, he added.

He said inspection would also be conducted on express buses and additional express buses to ensure they were road worthy.

"Every bus has its own log book and we will ensure the bus is inspected after every 300km journey," he told reporters after handing over of enforcement vehicles at the Kedah RTD head office here yesterday.

He advised express bus operators who had yet to send their fleet for inspection to do so to avoid any interruption in their operation.

Nadzri said RTD would also carry out patrol along the expressways, as well as conduct advocacy programme to enhance understanding on road safety among motorists.

In another development, Nadzri said RTD was given another 141 new enforcement vehicles this year, adding that the department received 185 vehicles last year and 150 vehicles in 2014.

These new vehicles were given to RTD to replace the 320 enforcement vehicles which are more than five years old and costly to repair and maintain, he added.

On Thai-registered private vehicles being used as commercial vehicles to transport goods into the country, Nadzri said owners of private vehicles issued with International Circulation Permit (ICP) should not abuse the permit by modifying their vehicles for use to transport goods across the border.
