The fourth policemen who was allegedly involved in the death of N. Dhamendran, was charged at a Magistrate’s Court today.

Inspector S. Hare Krishnan who turned himself in to the police yesterday after six weeks of disappearance, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for causing the death of Dhamendran who was found murdered in his lock-up cell on May 21 this year.

A local daily reported that Hare Krishnan was represented by defense counsels S. Kavitha and G. Sri Kumar while Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) S. Nithia prosecuted.

Magistrate Nur A'minahtul Mardiah Md Nor set August 2 for mention of the case.

Prior to Hare Krishnan’s charge, three other policemen were charged under the same section for causing Dhamendran’s death.

No plea was recorded from the accused - Sjn Jaffri Jaafar, 44, Kpl Mohd Nahar Abd Rahman, 45, and Kpl Mohd Haswadi Zamri Shaari, 32.

Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the mandatory death sentence for convicts.
