IPOH: The two main dams in the state of Perak are still at an adequate level even though the country is currently facing the phenomenon of hot weather, said Perak Water Board (LAP) general manager Datuk Ishak Abd Rahman.

He said the main ones under LAP supervision, which are the Sultan Azlan Shah Dam in Ulu Kinta and Air Kuning Dam in Taiping, are now filled to the brim.

"So far, the dams under LAP are still in good stead and at maximum level. In Perak, no significant impact has been seen and it all depends on the weather conditions," he told Bernama today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) stated that the heatwave Peninsular Malaysia is experiencing now is due to the sun's rays heating up the earth's surface with less rainfall.

Earlier in Penang, Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) chief executive officer Ir K Pathmanathan said cloud seeding operations are scheduled in two water catchment areas in the state from the end of this month to fill up the key dams as soon as possible as levels are shrinking day by day.

He was quoted as saying that water capacity at the Air Itam dam decreased further to 44.8 per cent compared to 46.1 per cent on Monday, while the Teluk Bahang dam recorded a decrease from 49.8 per cent to 48.6 per cent.
