The skeletal remains of local Muslim settlers found along the banks of Sungai Seberang Kota, Kuala Kedah will be gathered and re-buried soon.

The state executive councillor in charge, Datuk Mohd Rawi Abdul Hamid said the bones were scattered along the river bank due to soil erosion.

He said a meeting would be held with the relevant authorities including the state Mufti Department on the relocation process and the burial site for the remains.

He said he would also be requesting the Drainage and Irrigation Department to build a bund to stop further erosion there.

"The bones could have been from graves of local warriors who died during the war between Kedah and Siam from 1821-1840 because it happened near Kota Kuala Kedah," he said during the visit to the site where the bones were found on Monday.
