KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department (JBPMKL) confirmed that there was a minor explosion at the Menara Lembaga Pertubuhan Peladang (LPP) near Bukit Tunku, here today.

A JBPMKL spokesperson said the explosion involved a low-voltage room at basement 1 of the building and that they received an emergency call at 2 pm, before a fire engine as well as a fire rescue van, arrived at the location nine minutes later with seven members from the Sentul Fire and Rescue Station.

"The commander confirmed a two-foot wide hole resulting from the explosion, with no reported injuries. The explosion was caused by an underground cable fire.

"All LPP staff have been confirmed safe, and were allowed to enter the building at 2.55pm today," the spokesperson told Bernama.

Meanwhile, a survey by Bernama at the site found several media practitioners who were supposed to attend a session with the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, at the LPP Tower had captured the moments when LPP staff were instructed to evacuate the building, around 2 pm.

A fire truck was also seen arriving at the entrance of the building to take initial firefighting measures.

LPP employees and media editors, who were initially set to meet Mohamad, were waiting outside the building for the situation to be brought under control and deemed safe before they can re-enter.
