A hotel kitchen helper was sentenced to three months' jail by the Magistrate's Court here for stealing women's clothing, including underwear, belonging to his housemate.

Magistrate Ahmad Solihin Abd Wahid handed down the sentence on Mohamad Firdaus Mohsin, 27, who pleaded guilty to the charge.

He was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of arrest, which was last Sept 10.

Mohamad Firdaus was charged with stealing the clothing and underwear, worth RM400, belonging to a college student, Goh Yee En, 21, at Block B-7-1, PV 10, Jalan Danau Saujana, Setapak at 5pm four days ago.

The charge, under Section 380 of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to 10 years, and is liable to fine, and imprisonment and also fine, for the second and subsequent offence, if found guilty.

According to the facts of the case, Goh, upon finding some of her underwear and clothing missing, and no sign of her room being broken into, installed a webcam, which revealed who the culprit was.

It was found that Mohamad Firdaus, who occupied a room next to Goh, entered Goh's room and stole her underwear and other clothing.

Mohamad Firdaus said he stole the underwear because they looked pretty.
