Low crime rates were recorded throughout Sabah, with each district and town registering a decrease last year.

Sabah CID chief Omar Mammah said the low crime index shows good performance by the Sabah police compared to other states in 2013.

"This low crime rate is a good achievement. Labuan, for example, recorded the most significant drop each year," he said when witnessing the handing over of duty ceremony for the Labuan CID chief post, Monday.

He said the most significant drop in crime rate was seen in Labuan, with 12.74 per cent, or 33 cases, out of 259 cases recorded compared to 11 cases in 2011.

"We regard our achievement as significant as it exceeds the five per cent target," he said.

However, Omar added that the force will not be complacent with their achievement, instead they will continue to take an effective approach to fight crime.
