The unemployed youth charged with stealing a handphone at the Low Yat Plaza here is sending a letter of representation to the Attorney-General's Chambers for a review of the charge against him.

Lawyer Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz, who is representing Shahrul Anuar Abdul Aziz, 22, told this to the court when the case came up for mention before Magistrate Zura Syazween Hamizan today.

He also requested the court to set a new date for mention of the case to enable him to submit the representation.

The court then set Aug 26 to mention the case.

Shahrul Anuar was charged with stealing the phone, costing RM800, at Techasia Boutique, Plaza Low Yat, Bukit Bintang at 4.47 pm last July 11.

The charge, under Section 380 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum imprisonment for 10 years and fine, if found guilty.

The prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor Noor Svetlana Mohd Noor Nordin.
