KUALA LUMPUR: A proposal to only allow COVID-19 vaccinated spectators into the stadium is expected to further raise public readiness to obtain vaccine shots.

Malaysia League (M-League) fan representatives all over the country agreed with the Malaysia Football League (MFL)'s proposal to give greater confidence in reducing COVID-19 infection among spectators in the stadium.

Anak Selangor Fan Club (Selangor FC) president, Mohd Faizal Wahid said the time has come for M-League to follow the majority of championship organisers as well as football leagues abroad which have started making it mandatory for all fans to be vaccinated.

"For me it is the best solution to facilitate entry into the stadium, we could see more supporters are allowed into the stadium after getting the vaccine jab.

"In fact I assume some of us would be worried or too lazy to take the vaccine shots, perhaps after this they might change their mind if the measure is made a requirement," he said in a statement issued by MFL today.

Earlier, MFL chief executive officer, Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan said in a media report that MFL was prepared to discuss with the government to allow spectators into the stadium including allowing supporters who have been vaccinated to return to the stadium for M-League matches.

Meanwhile, Sri Pahang FC fans representative at TokGajah.com, Mohamad Fauzi Abdul Manaf felt it was the best way but hoped the regulation would only be enforced when the national immunisation programme has achieved satisfactoryof herd immunity level.

"I am also suggesting for fans who have not taken the vaccine shots but wanted to enter the stadium maybe required to RTK-Antigen test as a choice for supporters, " he said.

Ultras Penang (Penang FC) representative, Zamzuri Ibrahim sees the MFL move as being in line with the current situation apart from proving to other parties that MFL is serious in combating the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

After resting for two months, the M-League is expected to resume next month with the Premier League starting on July 3 and the Super League on July 24.
