No Malaysians were affected in the earthquake and Tsunami that hit the Solomon Islands today.

This was confirmed by a spokesman from Wisma Putra who said most Malaysians on the island had moved to higher grounds as a precautionary measure after receiving an early warning about the disaster.

"Some Malaysians working there have already returned home for the Chinese New Year celebrations," the spokesman said.

The spokesman added that Wisma Putra is in touch with the Malaysian High Commission in Papua New Guinea.

"The Malaysian High Commission in Papua New Guinea is currently in touch with Malaysians who are still on the island," she added.
