Malaysians residing in areas affected by the eruption of Mount Raung in East Java, Indonesia, are reported to be safe as of now, according to the Foreign Ministry.

In a statement today, it said they included students.

"Most of the students have returned to Malaysia for their semester break.

The embassy through Education Malaysia in Jakarta is in constant contact with our students," it said.

The ministry said it was closely monitoring the eruption of the mountain in Banyuwangi in the province of East Java - about 120 km from Bali.
